Rebel Rag Ruggers of the North East
From Sat 5th Oct to Fri 1st Nov 2013 there will be an exhibition of work at Bailiffgate created by individuals and Northumbrian rag rugging groups including the Rebel Rag Ruggers.
There was an Open Day on Oct 5th with displays and demonstrations from local groups that proves the great interest and enjoyment of this traditional activity amongst all ages
Don't worry though, you have not missed out as there is also a full-day workshop on October 19th to get you rag rugging in earnest
Why do we call ourselves Rebel Rag Ruggers?
As people have been rag rugging for centuries there are quite a few traditional "rules". We call ourselves the Rebel Rag Ruggers because although we respect and value traditional rag rugging methods, we also think that you don't have to stick to the traditional rules. We find that people learn best when they are relaxed and having fun experimenting, rather than worrying about not doing things the "proper" way. So don’t worry, you don’t need to be good at art, drawing, or sewing to rag rug.
All workshops are suitable for beginners and cost £30 per person, which includes tuition, all materials, tea/coffee and homemade cake.
