Background:
Born in January 1889 at Shilbottle, Northumberland, the son of Alexander & Mary Susan Arries. Christened at Shilbottle Church. In 1911, aged 22, Mansfield was working as a coal miner & living with his parents & siblings at 10 North Terrace, Bedlington.
